Aim- to encourage the community of Brixham to learn a new skill and interest, therefore wanting to get involved in dance more.
Objectives-
- To create a number of simple dances.
- To be enthusiastic and encouraging to the community so they feel comfortable to join in.
- Use fun simple dances to keep their concentration and keep them entertained.
- Encourage the community to get involved in dance more.
How it went.
The fun day turned out to be nothing like I thought/told it would be. I would say I was completely unprepared for what the fun day turned out to be, however, I was told when asked to run the workshop that everything I needed was being sorted and all I needed to bring was myself.
The biggest problem was that we hadn't got our own individual music player, everything was played off the same music system which was played through speakers all around the fun day and each group had five to ten minute slots for their music. This affected the way I planned the workshop in a huge way. For example-
- I couldn't teach a dance to any certain piece of music because I could stop, start and re-start the music when I needed to.
- We had to use whichever song that was played next and try and fit the dance we had learned to it which was very difficult.
I myself choreographed fun simple dances and I was the one to teach the dances and Laura Harrison danced what I taught as well.
I encouraged everyone who came near to the workshop to join in, including young children, Dads, the Palm FM team and even my partner.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the dances and laughed along with Laura and I. I think we were all enjoying ourselves.
After the fun day, the organisers were approached by many people to ask if we ran regular workshops that they could get involved in.
The events organisers in Brixham are currently in talks of whether they have the space and time for us to run more workshops.
I believe this was a very successful Work Placement.
